India has seized a crucial advantage on the opening day of the second Test against South Africa in Guwahati. Despite losing the toss, the Indian bowlers, spearheaded by Kuldeep Yadav’s impressive three-wicket haul, managed to restrict the Proteas to 247/6 by the end of the day’s play at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium. The pitch offered a mixed bag of conditions, initially favoring the fast bowlers with morning moisture before becoming more amenable to batting. However, as the day progressed, spinners found purchase, with Yadav proving particularly effective.

While all of South Africa’s top four batters reached scores of over 30, none could convert their starts into significant centuries. Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton built a solid foundation, forging an 82-run partnership for the opening wicket before Jasprit Bumrah broke through just before the interval. Kuldeep Yadav then tightened the screws, dismissing Rickelton early in the second session. Captain Temba Bavuma and Tristan Stubbs showed resilience, steering their team to 156/2. The momentum shifted dramatically in the third session as South Africa attempted to accelerate. Ravindra Jadeja claimed a wicket, and Yadav continued his excellent spell, removing Stubbs and Wiaan Mulder. Mohammed Siraj then added a late scalp with the new ball, leaving India in a commanding position heading into the second day.
