Following their groundbreaking World Cup victory, the triumphant Indian women’s cricket team is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his official residence in New Delhi. This highly anticipated meeting comes just days after the team, under the inspiring leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur, secured their first-ever World Cup title by defeating South Africa by 52 runs in a thrilling final. The squad arrived in the capital on Tuesday evening to a joyous reception from eager fans at Indira Gandhi International Airport.

The team’s journey to this historic win was marked by remarkable resilience. Despite a shaky start with three consecutive losses in the league stage, they rallied with exceptional skill and determination. A standout moment was their semi-final victory over seven-time champions Australia, where they successfully chased a mammoth 339 runs. Jemimah Rodrigues played a pivotal role with an unbeaten 127, supported by Captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s 89.

In the final showdown on Sunday, November 2nd, opener Shafali Verma set the tone with a strong 87, guiding India to a competitive total of 298. While South African captain Laura Wolvaardt displayed a stellar century in the chase, her efforts were ultimately in vain as the opposition was bowled out for 246. Deepti Sharma, who was also named Player of the Tournament, sealed the victory by taking the final wicket, with a spectacular running catch by Harmanpreet Kaur. Prime Minister Modi had previously lauded the team’s achievement, emphasizing its potential to inspire young girls across India to embrace sports.
