The International Cricket Council’s (ICC) latest ODI batting rankings show a significant dip for India’s star players. Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma have all experienced substantial point losses, dropping double digits. This decline follows a disappointing performance in the opening ODI against Australia in Perth.

During the rain-affected match at Optus Stadium, India’s top order struggled mightily. Shubman Gill was dismissed early, and Virat Kohli recorded a rare duck on Australian soil. The team posted a meager 136/9 in their reduced 26 overs. Australia comfortably chased down the target, winning by seven wickets.

The substantial point deductions for Gill (-16), Iyer (-13), Kohli (-12), and Sharma (-11) underscore the importance of consistent form, especially in crucial matches. This drop in rankings not only reflects their recent struggles but also potentially impacts batting stability and selectors’ confidence heading into the remainder of the series. India’s top order faces pressure to rebound quickly in the upcoming ODIs to avoid a further downward slide on the tour.
