The India-Pakistan match in the Asia Cup 2025 was charged with tension from the outset. After Pakistan was restricted to a modest score of 128 runs, which India easily surpassed, the focus shifted to India’s unexpected refusal to engage in the customary post-match handshake. The Pakistani team was left waiting on the field as Indian batsmen Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube immediately headed towards their dressing room and shut the door. This left Pakistan’s captain, Salman Ali Agha, and his squad in an awkward position, waiting near the Indian area for a handshake that never materialized. The captains also did not shake hands during the coin toss. Mike Hesson, speaking after the match, expressed disappointment, noting the Pakistani players were prepared for the handshake but were met with the Indian team’s refusal to reciprocate. Hesson and the Pakistani players were visibly frustrated by this conclusion to the game.
