That day, the first match of IPL was played between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. Bangalore won the toss and decided to bowl first, but this decision proved to be bad for them.

Brendon McCullum and Sourav Ganguly came on the field as opening batsmen for Kolkata. Both of them showed aggressive play from the beginning. The team completed 50 runs in the first four overs itself. However, despite the fall of the wickets of Ganguly and Ricky Ponting, McCullum did not let the pace of scoring slow down.
