New Zealand’s experienced batsman, Kane Williamson, widely regarded as one of the world’s best players, has revealed his surprise at Virat Kohli’s decision to retire from Test cricket. Williamson, who has often played impactful innings for New Zealand, shared his reaction to Kohli’s retirement. He mentioned that he was taken aback when the Indian player announced his departure from the Test format. Williamson’s comments were specifically regarding former Indian captain Virat Kohli.

Kohli had retired from the Test team prior to India’s tour of England. Williamson expressed to The Independent that such decisions by teammates or cricketers from other teams can prompt reflection, highlighting the passage of time and the transition away from youth. He further added that Kohli, like other players, makes his own decisions, which is what makes him special. Williamson noted that everyone was surprised by Kohli’s decision, as it seemed unlikely, but it happened. Williamson acknowledged that for a player like Virat, who had the freedom to make his own decisions and contribute to the game, it was remarkable and very special.
