As the Indian cricket team gears up for a five-match Test series against England in London, a significant development has emerged regarding the trophy name. The Pataudi Trophy, established in 2007, has been renamed the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, a decision that has drawn reactions from various quarters. Former Indian captain Kapil Dev has shared his thoughts on this change.

During an event in Tunbridge Wells, where he commemorated his iconic 175-run performance in the 1983 World Cup, Kapil Dev commented on the renaming. He stated, “It feels a bit strange. Does something like this really happen? But it’s fine everything goes on in cricket. After all, it doesn’t really matter. Cricket is cricket, and it should remain the same on the field.” This renaming honors James Anderson and Sachin Tendulkar. The Pataudi Trophy was originally named to celebrate the contributions of Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi to both Indian and English cricket.

While the trophy name has changed, the legacy of the Pataudi family will still be acknowledged. From 2025 onwards, the winning captain will receive the Pataudi Medal.
