Former England captain Nasser Hussain lauded Jasprit Bumrah as a cricketing genius, drawing parallels between his ability to baffle batsmen and the legendary Shane Warne. Hussain expressed his hope that Bumrah remains injury-free to showcase his brilliance for years to come. Bumrah’s exceptional performance, including a five-wicket haul, during Day 3 of the first Test against England at Headingley, further solidified his reputation as one of the best fast bowlers in the world.

Hussain stated, “Hopefully he stays injury free and we talk about him for years to come. There are two brilliant things to watch in cricket — a wrist spinner like Shane Warne bamboozling batters and a genuine fast bowler like Bumrah bamboozling batters.” He added, “He is absolute genius. That is the only word for him. You wouldn’t want to replicate him, you wouldn’t want to say to young boys and girls to go replicate this run-up or this action. He knows what he is doing, he has perfected an art and he is going to be a thorn in England’s side — not for five Tests, maybe three. In those three Test matches he is going to take a shed load of wickets.”

In the match, KL Rahul scored an unbeaten 47, complementing Bumrah’s 5/83. India took a slight lead, with England all out for 465. Ollie Pope scored 106 and Harry Brook 99. Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj contributed with three and two wickets, respectively. In India’s second innings, Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed early, but Rahul and Sai Sudharsan formed a crucial partnership of 66 runs, helping India end the day with a lead of 96 runs.
