In a dramatic twist days before the 2026 T20 World Cup, New Zealand cricket has lost Adam Milne to injury. The team has swiftly drafted in Kyle Jamieson to bolster their pace battery.

The right-armer picked up a left hamstring strain during a South Africa 20 league match over the weekend, effectively ending his World Cup aspirations.

Coach Rob Walter didn’t hold back on his disappointment. He highlighted Milne’s dedication: ‘Adam had been grinding hard for this tournament and shining for his franchise. We feel for him deeply and hope he bounces back soon.’

However, Walter is upbeat about Jamieson’s promotion. ‘He’s got the grit, technique, and know-how to thrive here. Being in India already and excelling on tour makes this seamless. Kyle is integral to our fast bowling unit.’

Jamieson, 31, transitions from reserve to main squad while on India’s white-ball series. His T20I record stands at 24 matches and 23 scalps.

Drawn in the competitive Group D with South Africa, Afghanistan, UAE, and Canada, New Zealand opens against Afghanistan on February 8 at Chepauk. Jamieson’s fresh legs could be the X-factor in what promises to be a fiercely contested pool.
