India’s women’s cricket captain Harmanpreet Kaur has been named for the Padma Shri on Republic Day eve, sparking widespread celebration. From Moga, her father Harminder Singh Bhullar beamed with pride in an IANS interview, thanking the government profusely.

“This feels incredible,” he shared. “Parents, let your kids chase their passions in sports or academics. A chance is all they need to bring honor to your family.”

Harmanpreet’s crowning achievement came leading India to the 2025 ODI World Cup victory, a historic first ICC title. Her dual role as skipper and explosive batter shone brightly, justifying the national accolade. With prior Arjuna recognition in 2017, her stats dazzle: 200 Test runs, 4,409 ODI runs (7 hundreds, 22 fifties), 3,784 T20I runs (1 century, 15 fifties), and key wickets in all formats.

After the triumph, she opened up about dreaming big since childhood, enduring setbacks but never quitting. Family support, particularly her dad’s, fueled her rise from Punjab fields to global stages.

At 36, Harmanpreet embodies resilience and leadership. Her father’s appeal cuts through societal barriers, encouraging investment in the next generation. As Padma awards highlight unsung heroes, Kaur’s story underscores cricket’s power to unite and uplift India.
