Pakistan’s cricket team has been penalized with a 20% fine of their match fees following a slow over-rate violation during the first One Day International (ODI) against Sri Lanka. The match, held on November 11th in Rawalpindi, saw the Men in Green secure a convincing victory. However, post-match, the International Cricket Council (ICC) levied the penalty for falling four overs short of the required target within the allotted time for the match. This infraction resulted in an extended game duration of four hours. According to ICC Code of Conduct Article 2.22, teams are fined 5% of their match fee for each over not bowled within the stipulated time. As a consequence of this slow bowling, Pakistan had to bring an extra fielder inside the circle after the 46th over of Sri Lanka’s innings. Captain Shaheen Afridi acknowledged the charge, avoiding the need for a formal hearing.
