Rohit Sharma, recognized as one of the best captains in the world, led the Indian team to an ICC trophy after an 11-year drought. He captained the team, with Rahul Dravid as coach, to victory in the ICC T20I World Cup 2024. Former India head coach Rahul Dravid recently disclosed that India needed a captain like Rohit Sharma after Virat Kohli stepped down.

During a discussion on Ravichandran Ashwin’s ‘Kutti Stories,’ Rahul Dravid stated that Rohit Sharma thinks deeply for his team. He said that Rohit always understood how to lead the team and what was crucial for them. Dravid believes that a captain should lead the team and set the path. He expressed his satisfaction working with Rohit, who remained composed despite challenges. Dravid also highlighted Rohit’s ability to understand the team well. He emphasized the team’s need for a captain like Rohit Sharma after Virat Kohli’s tenure, praising Rohit’s excellent leadership and numerous wins. He expressed happiness with Rohit’s performance.

Rahul Dravid served as India’s head coach from November 2021 to June 2024, during which Rohit Sharma captained India in all three formats. Under their partnership, India won 10 consecutive matches in the 2023 ODI World Cup and qualified for the final. Although they lost the final to Australia, they won the T20I World Cup 2024, securing an ICC trophy after 11 years. India defeated South Africa in the T20I World Cup 2024 final. Following this tournament, Rahul Dravid’s tenure as head coach concluded, and Rohit Sharma retired from the T20I format after the victory.
