The India versus England Test series has captivated audiences since its commencement. A young Indian team, captained by Shubman Gill and missing key players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, has displayed resilience. The fifth Test’s final day sees England needing 35 runs to win, while India requires 3 wickets to level the series. England, led by Ben Stokes, has already won two Tests, leading the series 2-1. India faced significant pressure after a narrow loss at Lord’s, followed by a draw at Old Trafford. Former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has pinpointed India’s bowling struggles, noting their inability to build pressure on England. Ashwin highlighted a lack of pressure-building bowling, essential in the current T20 era, and criticized the team’s game awareness and tactical acumen. He believes Shubman Gill will improve as captain but also noted that sometimes the strategic choices weren’t the best. Ashwin suggested that a lack of communication or tactical awareness could be contributing to these issues. He also said that the mistakes made could have been avoided.
