Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, aged 39, has declared his retirement from the Indian Premier League. The announcement was made on X (formerly Twitter), where he also hinted at his intention to participate in franchise cricket leagues globally. While the specific reason for this decision remains undisclosed, Ashwin expressed that it marks the end of his IPL journey and the beginning of his exploration of the game across various leagues. He extended his gratitude to all the franchises for the memorable experiences and relationships he has built over the years, as well as to the IPL and the BCCI for their support. Ashwin was part of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2025, where he was acquired for INR 9.75 crore. His performance during that season was not as impactful, as he took 7 wickets in 9 matches. Ashwin made his IPL debut with CSK in 2009 and has played 221 matches across several franchises, securing 187 wickets. He has represented Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals, and Chennai Super Kings during his IPL career.
