India’s star opener Rohit Sharma attributes his resounding success on the recent ODI tour of Australia, including a match-winning 121 in the final match, to an unprecedented period of dedicated preparation. Having stepped away from Test and T20I formats, Sharma found himself with significant downtime following the IPL 2025 campaign. This break allowed him to focus intensely on fitness, shedding approximately 10 kgs, and adhering to a strict nutritional plan. Furthermore, he honed his skills at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru and under the guidance of former assistant coach Abhishek Nayar in Mumbai. Sharma expressed that this extended period, the longest he’s ever had for series preparation, was instrumental in his performance. He emphasized the value of working on his own terms and in his own way, a strategy that proved highly effective. Despite the differences in conditions between India and Australia, Sharma, a seasoned visitor, felt confident in adapting and finding his rhythm. He also acknowledged the unwavering support of the Australian crowds throughout the series, describing their enthusiasm as a consistent positive, and wished the upcoming T20I squad the best.
