Newly appointed Pakistan ODI captain Shaheen Afridi has rallied his troops ahead of the upcoming three-match series against Sri Lanka. Following a hard-fought 2-1 series victory over South Africa, Afridi emphasized the importance of maintaining momentum and building consistency. This win marked a significant rebound for Pakistan in 50-over cricket after a disappointing Champions Trophy campaign.

Afridi expressed pride in his team’s performance against South Africa, highlighting their collective response to challenges and outstanding teamwork. “The energy, intent and teamwork were outstanding,” he stated. Looking ahead to the Sri Lanka series, the focus remains on carrying forward this winning spirit and enhancing performance across all departments.

Acknowledging Sri Lanka as a disciplined and skilled opponent, Afridi stressed the need for smart play, adherence to plans, and a positive mindset. The captain also called for shared responsibility within the squad, urging every player to contribute rather than relying solely on senior members. “All the players should take responsibility. It’s not Shaheen, Fakhar, Babar, or Saim’s job, we all should do our best,” he remarked, reinforcing the belief in collective strength and mutual support.

Sri Lanka, led by Charith Asalanka, is also entering the series on a high after a 2-0 sweep against Zimbabwe. Asalanka anticipates a tough contest in Pakistan but expressed confidence in his team’s recent good form. The first ODI is scheduled for November 11 in Rawalpindi, followed by matches on November 13 and 15 in the same venue.
