    The 2025 Para World Championships in New Delhi began with a remarkable performance by India’s Shailesh Kumar. In the Men’s T42/64 High Jump finals, Kumar achieved a new championship record of 1.91m, securing the gold medal. Fellow Indian Varun Bhati earned the bronze medal with a jump of 1.85m. Deepthi Jeevanji also contributed to India’s success by winning a silver medal in the Women’s 400m T20 Final, clocking a season-best time of 55.16 seconds. Kumar’s performance of 1.91m not only broke the Championship record but also surpassed the Asian record, marking a career highlight for the 25-year-old athlete. These results placed India in fourth position on the medal tally after the first day of competition. The event continues at JLN Stadium, New Delhi.
