England’s renowned spinner, Sophie Ecclestone, has announced a temporary break from cricket. Making her debut on July 3, 2016, against Pakistan in a T20 match, Ecclestone has amassed an impressive record of 297 wickets in 177 matches across all formats. The decision to step back from the sport is due to a quad injury, prompting her to prioritize recovery.

Head coach Charlotte Edwards confirmed Ecclestone’s injury and the need for focused recovery. This follows a period of rest during the West Indies series due to a knee injury. Ecclestone’s coach revealed she has been experiencing discomfort for several weeks, leading to the break. The duration of her absence is unknown, but support is being provided, and her return hinges on fitness. The upcoming home series against India, commencing June 28, is the target for her potential return. England is scheduled to play five T20s and three ODIs against India.

The T20 matches are slated for June 28, July 1, July 4, July 9, and July 12 in Nottingham, Bristol, The Oval, Manchester, and Birmingham, respectively. The ODI series will be held on July 16, 19, and 22 in Southampton, Lord’s, and Chester-le-Street.
