Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Ayush Mhatre are considered the future of Indian cricket. Currently, they are together in Australia, aiming to win the Under-19 team matches. However, a significant question arises: among these two players, who will get the first opportunity to enter India’s senior team? Former Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu, who has played 61 matches for India, has answered this question, gracefully ending the debate between Suryavanshi and Mhatre.
In a podcast with Shubankar Mishra this year in August, Ambati Rayudu was asked who he sees entering Team India first, Suryavanshi or Mhatre. In response, the 39-year-old Rayudu chose Vaibhav Suryavanshi. Rayudu also explained the reason for his choice.
He mentioned that considering how well Vaibhav is playing at such a young age, he believes Suryavanshi will enter Team India first. He further praised his bat swing and compared him to Lara, advising Suryavanshi to focus on his game and not listen to too many people. He also appealed to people not to offer too much advice.
Regarding their records, Vaibhav Suryavanshi is set to play his ninth U-19 ODI match on the current Australia tour. In the previous 8 matches, he scored 432 runs at an average of 54, including a high score of 143 runs. In U-19 Tests, he has scored 198 runs in 4 innings. His strike rate in U-19 T20s has been remarkable.
Ayush Mhatre, on the other hand, has scored only 82 runs in 8 U-19 ODIs for India. In two Test innings, he has scored 340 runs at an average of 85.
