It’s a surprising situation: Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who have amassed over 14,000 and 11,000 runs respectively in One Day International (ODI) cricket, are reportedly facing a struggle to maintain their place in the Indian team, even after winning the Champions Trophy. Both these star batsmen, having already retired from T20 and Test cricket, are now potentially facing an uncertain future in ODIs, with the upcoming Australia tour possibly being their last. A report suggested that the team management doesn’t see them in the plans for the 2027 World Cup, which could force them into retirement after the Australia series. Furthermore, they might have to prove themselves in the Vijay Hazare Trophy to continue playing. However, there’s also discussion within the BCCI to have them play three ODIs before the Australia series to regain their form. The ODI series in Australia is scheduled from October 19th to 25th. Before that, a series between Australia A and India A will take place from September 30th to October 5th. The BCCI is considering having Rohit and Virat play two matches in this series to get into form before heading to Australia.
