Imagine roads free from stray cows darting into traffic—Gujarat is making it a reality with AI. In a groundbreaking move, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation is rolling out a pilot powered by advanced AI to detect wandering cattle and notify owners on the spot.

The problem is acute: Stray animals block roads, spark accidents, and strain resources. Traditional methods involve poring over CCTV clips and manually verifying RFID tags on over 110,000 cows—a tedious ordeal requiring hordes of personnel.

Enter the AI model from GIFT City’s AI Center of Excellence. Commissioned to an expert agency, it’s fine-tuning deep learning algorithms that fuse with city-wide CCTV feeds. The tech scans distinctive bovine features: the irreplaceable nose pattern, eye shapes, and any visible marks, cross-referencing them against a vast municipal database.

Real-time identification means quicker roundups, fewer disruptions, and safer streets. With 130 CCTV cameras already capturing stray cow sightings, integration is seamless. This isn’t just tech for tech’s sake; it’s about preventing tragedies, boosting efficiency, and setting a national benchmark for AI in governance.

Gujarat’s vision extends beyond Ahmedabad, eyeing a statewide rollout. As the model nears operational committee approval, the state edges closer to smarter, safer urban living.
