Apple is preparing for its highly anticipated product launch event, scheduled for September 9th. The company is poised to unveil its next-generation iPhone lineup, new smartwatches, and other peripheral devices. The upcoming product releases are intended to help Apple maintain its competitive edge against rivals like Samsung Electronics, Google, and Chinese brands such as Huawei Technologies and Xiaomi Corp. While Apple has been perceived to lag behind in generative artificial intelligence, the focus remains on hardware advancements to keep customers engaged within the Apple ecosystem.
At the event, Apple is anticipated to introduce four new iPhone models. The iPhone Air is generating considerable excitement, with reports suggesting it will be significantly thinner than the iPhone 16 Pro. This design change may result in reduced battery life, potentially addressed through a new battery case. The iPhone 17 Air is expected to feature the A19 processor, a 6.6-inch screen, a USB-C port, ProMotion support, and eSIM-only functionality. It will also use Apple’s proprietary Wi-Fi chip and C1 modem. The iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max are projected to revert to an aluminum frame for improved heat dissipation and a lighter feel. The base iPhone 17 will retain its design but will have a slightly larger 6.3-inch screen. Other enhancements include a new chip, a ProMotion display for the non-Pro model, and Qualcomm modems. New accessories, including a revamped case and cross-body strap, are also anticipated.
Significant updates are planned for Apple’s wearable and audio products. The Apple Watch Ultra 3 will feature a larger screen, the new S11 chip, 5G Redcap support, and satellite text messaging/emergency features. The budget-friendly Apple Watch SE is expected to receive a faster chip and an updated display. Health-related upgrades, including hypertension detection, are in development, alongside a paid Health+ service planned for the following year. The AirPods Pro 3 are expected to launch with a heart rate monitor and a smaller charging case, alongside a new live translation feature.
