Google is the primary search tool for many when seeking information online, but cybercriminals are increasingly exploiting this habit. Scammers are cleverly using Google search results to spread their fraudulent schemes. As a result, Cyber Dost, under the Ministry of Home Affairs, which focuses on cyber security awareness, has begun warning people about Google scams.

    How the Scammers Operate:

    * Fake Websites: Leading to dangerous sites via ads: Scammers create fake advertisements that entice people to click on links, which then lead to dangerous websites.
    * Fake Numbers: Whether searching for customer care numbers or store contact details, people often use Google. Scammers circulate fake numbers through Google search, and when people call these numbers, the scammers initiate their schemes.
    * Stealing OTPs and Banking Details: OTPs and banking details can also be stolen through fake websites.

How Scammers Achieve Top Rankings on Google:

Scammers use paid advertising and Black-Hat SEO technology to rank fake sites on the first page or at the top of Google search results, making it easy for people to fall into their traps.

CyberDost offers advice to avoid Google search scams:

    * Always get information from official websites and apps.
    * If anyone asks for a helpline WhatsApp or personal number — consider it a scam.
    * Never share your personal details on unknown sites.
