The smartphone market is witnessing a fierce competition to redefine design, with Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge leading the charge. This device, an engineering marvel, boasts impressive specifications and state-of-the-art camera sensors within a sleek 5.84mm chassis. It was initially hailed as a game-changer. However, Apple is preparing to launch its iPhone 17 Air, rumored to be even slimmer at approximately 5.5mm based on preliminary models.
The Galaxy S25 Edge incorporates the best features of the S25 series in a streamlined, agile 5.84mm thick body. It features a 6.7-inch LTPO AMOLED 2X display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2. The camera system includes a 200MP f/1.7 aperture (wide) sensor, 1/1.56” sensor with PDAF and OIS, complemented by a 12MP f/2.2 ultrawide front-facing camera. The device houses a 3900mAh battery and supports 25W wired charging.
While Apple has yet to officially announce details about the iPhone 17 Air, it is speculated to have a 6.7-inch OLED screen with HDR support. The processor is anticipated to be an A19 (3nm) chipset with a hexa-core architecture and an Apple GPU. The phone will likely run on iOS 19. Storage variants are expected to include 128GB with 12GB RAM, 256GB with 12GB RAM, and 512GB with 12GB RAM. Apple’s approach involves a single-camera setup, featuring a 48MP sensor, dual-tone LED flash, and HDR support. The front camera is projected to be a 12MP sensor with an f/1.9, 23mm wide lens. Given the anticipated 5.5mm thickness, there are concerns regarding battery capacity, potentially smaller than the 3900mAh of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge. Recent reports also suggest Apple might offer a special case to enhance battery life.
