Concerns regarding the potential shutdown of Paytm UPI after August 31st have been addressed. Recent notifications received by users on various UPI apps sparked inquiries, which Paytm has clarified through an official post. The core change impacts recurring payments, specifically subscriptions. Users who utilize Paytm UPI for services like YouTube Premium or Google One Storage will need to update their UPI handle. Instead of the old @paytm handle, users should now use new handles such as @pthdfc, @ptaxis, @ptyes, or @ptsbi. Normal UPI payments, including one-time transactions for app purchases on Google Play or payments to merchants, remain unaffected. The transition stems from NPCI’s approval of Paytm as a Third-Party Application Provider (TPAP), prompting the shift to new bank-partnered handles. The deadline of August 31st is tied to the implementation of new regulations starting September 1st, after which subscriptions linked to the old @paytm handle will cease to function. Users are advised to update their UPI ID within the Paytm app to the new handle. Alternatively, recurring payments can be linked to other UPI apps like PhonePe, Google Pay, BHIM UPI, or WhatsApp UPI. Debit or credit cards can also be used as payment options for subscriptions.
