In a historic moment for Australian politics, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has married his partner, Jodie Haydon. The intimate ceremony took place at The Lodge, the official Prime Minister’s residence in Canberra, following the final parliamentary sitting day of 2025. This marks the first time an Australian leader has tied the knot while holding the nation’s highest office, adding a significant personal milestone to Albanese’s political career.

The couple exchanged vows in a private ceremony attended by close family and friends, including Albanese’s son, Nathan, and Haydon’s parents. Details of the event were kept private by the Prime Minister’s office, underscoring its deeply personal nature. Following the ceremony, a reception was held at The Lodge, continuing the celebration for the newlyweds.

Albanese proposed to Haydon on Valentine’s Day in 2024, presenting her with a custom-designed engagement ring. Their relationship, which began five years ago, blossomed over a shared passion for rugby league. They first met at a Melbourne event in 2019, where Haydon’s spirited cheer for the South Sydney Rabbitohs caught Albanese’s attention, leading to their connection via social media.

Jodie Haydon, who works within the NSW Public Service Association and has a background in superannuation, has increasingly embraced the role of a prime ministerial spouse. She serves as the chief patron of the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra. Haydon has previously described Albanese as a ‘compassionate and kind’ individual who values her independence.

The wedding proceeded under enhanced security measures, a reflection of recent concerns for the Prime Minister’s safety. The Lodge, a historic residence built in 1927, has served as a home for numerous Australian leaders. This union is Albanese’s second marriage and marks Haydon’s first.
