BRICS Summit: PM Modi Outlines India’s Vision for Chairmanship, Prioritizing People and Global Collaboration

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, speaking at the BRICS Summit in Brazil, outlined India’s approach for its upcoming chairmanship, emphasizing a ‘Humanity First’ strategy. Modi stated that India would redefine BRICS as ‘Building Resilience and Innovation for Cooperation and Sustainability.’ He highlighted India’s commitment to people-centric progress, mirroring its approach during the G20 presidency, where the concerns of the developing world were prioritized. The Prime Minister underscored the need for global governance reforms, including those within the UN Security Council, IMF, World Bank, and WTO. He also addressed the critical need for global action against terrorism, condemning the Pahalgam terror attack, and advocated for dialogue and diplomacy in resolving conflicts. Additionally, Modi proposed initiatives for the BRICS New Development Bank, a science and research repository, secure supply chains for critical minerals, and responsible AI development. The summit concluded with the adoption of the ‘Rio de Janeiro Declaration’.
