Europe is expressing unease regarding the proposed meeting between Trump and Putin in Alaska. The primary concern stems from the belief that the meeting may not yield positive outcomes, particularly due to the conflicting interests between Trump and European nations. The potential summit in Alaska poses a risk to both Ukraine and Europe. Consequently, Europe is preparing for intense discussions, emphasizing that Ukraine holds the right to negotiate with Russia and that the nation’s sovereignty must not be compromised. Should Trump concede to Putin’s demands, the EU may continue to support Ukraine in the conflict. The situation has the potential to escalate into a full-scale war rather than a ceasefire.

Russia has seized a substantial portion of Ukrainian territory during the three-year conflict. According to reports from July 22nd, Russia controls 115,440 square kilometers of Ukrainian land. Concerns are growing that Trump might be inclined to accept Putin’s terms, potentially pressuring Ukraine to cede territory. This concern has prompted European nations to express alarm. They insist that Ukraine should be the one to negotiate with Russia, that Zelensky should be involved in any talks, and that Ukraine’s sovereignty should be upheld, while a ceasefire must not be imposed. However, Trump has stated that including Zelensky in the meeting is pointless.
