Pakistan’s volatile Khyber Pakhtunkhwa saw yet another militant strike as assailants attacked a police checkpoint in Bajaur’s Barang tehsil early Saturday. One civilian lost his life, and three others, including two policemen, sustained injuries in the barrage of gunfire.

The assault occurred around 2 AM in the rugged Kohi Sar region. Dawn newspaper, quoting locals and police, named the deceased as 60-year-old Naseem Gul. Wounded were Constable Suleman Khan (35), Constable Saj Mohammad (58), and school guard Sahibzada (28).

Medical teams admitted the victims to Khar’s District Headquarters Hospital, stabilizing their conditions. Police spokesperson Israr Khan stated attackers wielded automatic weapons and heavier arms, prompting an immediate joint security sweep.

This event fits into a disturbing trend of heightened terrorism in Pakistan during 2025. Islamabad’s PIPS data shows a 34% increase in attacks and 21% more deaths compared to last year, totaling 699 incidents, 1,034 killed, and 1,366 wounded.

In a related incident last month, Karak district police guarding a gas firm were ambushed, with five officers killed and their van torched. District Police Officer Saud Khan confirmed the details to Express Tribune.

Border regions like Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan continue to face intensified attacks on law enforcement, signaling persistent security threats.
