In a shocking development, Hamas has reportedly carried out public executions of eight men in Gaza, identified as “collaborators and outlaws.” The disturbing incident, captured in videos circulating on social media, occurred in Gaza City’s al Sabra neighborhood. The blindfolded men were shot by gunmen displaying Hamas insignia, as crowds chanted religious slogans. Hamas claims the victims were criminals with ties to Israel, though no evidence has been presented. Human rights organizations have vehemently condemned these extrajudicial killings. This consolidation of power by Hamas follows its intensified efforts to regain control of the Palestinian enclave after Israel’s withdrawal. Clashes have occurred with rival armed clans, some allegedly backed by Israel, who were accused of disrupting aid distribution and worsening the humanitarian crisis. Hamas security forces, previously diminished by Israeli strikes, have ramped up patrols to neutralize these competing factions. Amidst this turmoil, U.S. President Donald Trump acknowledged Hamas’s actions against armed gangs but stressed the imperative for disarmament, stating, “They will disarm, and if they don’t, we will disarm them.” The fragile U.S.-brokered peace deal, which facilitated hostage releases, now faces significant challenges. Israel has halved humanitarian aid to Gaza, demanding the return of deceased hostages’ remains. The United Nations is urging continued adherence to the ceasefire and sustained humanitarian assistance. The ongoing internal conflict and violent reprisals in Gaza highlight the region’s precarious stability, jeopardizing the ceasefire and the broader peace process.
