Strengthening longstanding partnerships, Seychelles President Patrick Herminie arrives in India Thursday for a pivotal five-day state visit at the invitation of PM Narendra Modi. This is his inaugural official trip to the country since taking the presidential oath last October, lasting until February 10.

High-level engagements dominate the agenda. President Herminie will meet President Droupadi Murmu and hold detailed bilateral discussions with PM Modi, focusing on India-Seychelles relations alongside regional security and international concerns.

Timed perfectly with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties, the visit is poised to elevate bilateral bonds. As a crucial player in the Indian Ocean, Seychelles aligns seamlessly with India’s maritime vision and Global South initiatives, the MEA emphasized.

Beyond diplomacy, Herminie will connect with business leaders in Chennai and Mumbai through targeted events. This outreach aims to boost trade, investment, and collaboration across sectors.

The MEA noted the reciprocity, coming after India’s Vice President attended Herminie’s swearing-in at Unity Stadium in October 2025. Bilateral meets there covered cooperation expansion, with greetings extended on behalf of India.

Shared goals for regional peace were reiterated, alongside talks with Seychelles’ Vice President Sebastian Pillay. Rooted in cultural affinities and robust public connections since 1976, when INS Nilgiri joined independence celebrations, these ties—formalized with missions in 1979 and 2008—signal a bright future of mutual prosperity.
