Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, the first Indian to visit the International Space Station (ISS) as part of the Axiom Mission 4, has expressed his enthusiasm for the scientific research being conducted in space, especially the Indian-led projects. He reported being deeply involved in research activities since arriving at the station. During a discussion with Axiom Space’s Chief Scientist, Dr. Lucie Low, Group Captain Shukla detailed the research and advancements occurring on the space station, with a particular focus on Indian-led initiatives. He highlighted the ISS’s importance as a leading laboratory for research and innovation, noting that his mission opens new opportunities for Indian scientists. The research encompasses diverse fields, including stem cell studies, seed growth in microgravity, and assessing cognitive loads on astronauts. One key project involves stem cell research, exploring whether supplements can accelerate recovery, growth, or injury repair. Group Captain Shukla serves as a bridge between researchers and the ISS, facilitating research on their behalf. He also mentioned that the Ax-4 crew is expected to stay aboard the space station for up to 14 days after launching on June 25.
