The Indian Navy is set to commission the stealth multi-role frigate ‘Tamal’ into service on July 1st in Kaliningrad, Russia. Vice Admiral Sanjay J. Singh, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command, will be the chief guest at the ceremony, which will be attended by high-ranking officials from both India and Russia. ‘Tamal’ is the eighth ship in the Krivak class and the second of the Tushil class, representing an upgrade over previous Talwar and Taig class warships inducted over the past two decades. The ship incorporates 26% indigenous components and features advanced weaponry including BrahMos long-range cruise missiles, vertical launched surface-to-air missiles, and improved sensors. The frigate, built at Yantar Shipyard, is designed to operate Air Early Warning and Multi Role helicopters. The crew of over 250 personnel have undergone extensive training. The frigate’s name and mascot carry symbolic significance. Upon commissioning, ‘Tamal’ will join the Western Fleet.
