US President Donald Trump’s trade advisor, Peter Navarro, has faced significant backlash from Indian social media users following his remarks concerning India’s trade relations with Russia. Navarro criticized India’s practice of purchasing crude oil from Russia, accusing Indian traders of profiteering and claiming they are contributing to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
A particularly contentious element of Navarro’s commentary was a post featuring an image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in saffron attire. Navarro concluded the post with the statement, “The road to peace in Ukraine goes through New Delhi,” which many interpreted as both offensive and provocative.
One social media user responded with a scathing critique, referencing past US actions. The user wrote, “You armed Pakistan with free weapons for decades, not through sales. You never sold weapons to India, even when we offered to pay. We see your trap. India will manufacture domestically and rely on trusted partners who support our technology and economy. True partners have strategic foresight, unlike your colonial strategy.”
Another user affirmed India’s stance, stating, “India will continue to buy Oil from wherever its available.” A further comment pointed out historical context, highlighting Russia’s support for India. The user stated, “Oh so now you have issues with India having relations with Russia same Russia who put nuclear between India and your nuclear submarines in 1971 which you tried to use to threaten India helping Pakistan.”
