Saudi Arabia and Pakistan formalized a mutual defense pact on September 17, 2025, signifying a significant move to bolster their long-standing partnership. The agreement stipulates that an attack on either nation will be considered an attack on both. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), responding to media inquiries, acknowledged the pact, stating the government was aware of its consideration. The MEA declared its commitment to analyzing the implications for India’s national security, as well as regional and global stability. The pact was signed during Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to Riyadh, at the invitation of Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, solidifying nearly eight decades of partnership.
