In a strategic huddle in New Delhi, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Spain’s Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares pledged to fortify India-Spain relations amid evolving global dynamics. The agenda spanned counter-terrorism, economic synergy, defense advancements, and cultural exchanges, reflecting a comprehensive strategic outlook.

Addressing the gathering, Jaishankar painted a picture of a transforming world order where collaborative efforts against shared threats like terrorism are non-negotiable. ‘India and Spain have both been victims of terror,’ he asserted, calling for global zero-tolerance policies.

The ministers celebrated the enduring friendship grounded in democracy and rule-based international order. As diplomatic relations hit 70 years this year, plans are afoot for a landmark 2026 observance focusing on culture, tourism, and AI.

High-level political dialogues have proliferated, bolstering ties. India’s forthcoming AI Impact Summit embodies an ethical, inclusive AI framework that resonates with Europe’s vision, Jaishankar highlighted.

Trade volumes have surged past $8 billion, with Spain as a vital EU gateway. Spanish investments shine in renewable energy, infrastructure, and smart urban solutions in India, while Indian prowess in IT and pharma bolsters Spain’s economy. The potential for deepened business engagement is immense.

On defense, anticipation builds for the inaugural indigenously produced C-295 aircraft rollout by September, underscoring joint manufacturing ambitions.

Vibrant cultural interconnections— from yoga’s popularity in Spain to rising interest in Spanish Flamenco in India—fuel people-centric bonds. Tourism emerges as a thriving pillar, with vows to streamline exchanges in education, travel, and collaborations.

As both nations stand united against terrorism and for progress, this dialogue charts a bold path for mutual prosperity and security.
