External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi during his visit to India on August 18-19, 2025, at the invitation of NSA Ajit Doval. In their bilateral meeting, Jaishankar emphasized the significance of border issues for the overall relationship. He stated that maintaining peace and tranquility in border areas is the foundation for positive developments in their ties. Jaishankar also highlighted the need for the de-escalation process to move forward. Discussions naturally included the international situation, given that the two largest nations were meeting. He advocated for a fair, balanced, and multipolar world order, including a multipolar Asia, and emphasized the need for reform in multilateralism. Furthermore, he stressed the importance of maintaining global economic stability and the fight against terrorism in all its forms.

Wang Yi responded by highlighting the maintenance of peace and tranquility in border areas and the resumption of the Indian pilgrimage to Mount Gang Renpoche and Lake Mapam Yun Tso in the Xijang Autonomous Region. He expressed confidence in dispelling interference, expanding cooperation, and further consolidating the positive momentum in China-India relations. This would allow both nations to contribute to each other’s success and provide stability to Asia and the world. Wang Yi is scheduled to participate in the 24th round of Special Representatives’ (SR) Talks on the India-China boundary question with India’s SR, NSA Doval.
