The Bangladesh National Party (BNP), led by Khaleda Zia, is gearing up for a strong push to regain power in the country. As part of this effort, the party is open to forming alliances with other political entities. However, Salahuddin Ahmed, a member of the BNP’s standing committee, has dismissed any possibility of a pre-election alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami. This clarifies that the BNP will not contest the upcoming elections with a hardline ideological stance.

Jamaat-e-Islami is considered a fundamentalist party in Bangladesh. During Sheikh Hasina’s tenure, several leaders of this party were incarcerated. With Sheikh Hasina no longer in power, Jamaat-e-Islami also has its sights set on the country’s governance.

Speaking to reporters at his Gulshan residence on Saturday, Salahuddin stated that the BNP anticipates a fair election under the banner of an anti-fascist national unity, which he believes would mark a historic event in the nation’s political history.
