North Korean leader Kim Jong Un recently traveled to China for the SCO meet, making headlines due to his chosen mode of transportation: his armored green train. This method of travel, favored by generations of the Kim family, has become a symbol of the nation’s isolation and secrecy. Kim departed Pyongyang on September 1st and crossed into China by train to attend a military parade in Beijing on September 3rd. Photos released showed Kim Jong Un seated at a wooden table with senior officials, including Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui, with the North Korean flag displayed behind him.
