Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri has firmly stated that any form of normalization with Israel is completely off the table. Berri emphasized that indirect talks concerning regional stability should involve all key stakeholders, including Lebanon, Israel, the United States, France, and the United Nations. He noted that the inclusion of civilian experts, such as geological and mapping specialists, is acceptable for specific technical consultations, referencing successful precedents from the Blue Line demarcation in 2000. Berri reiterated that escalating Israeli threats and airstrikes will not deter Lebanon’s unwavering stance on this issue. Despite a ceasefire agreement in place since late November 2024, the Israeli military continues to carry out sporadic strikes within Lebanon, citing operations against perceived Hezbollah threats. These actions have impacted Lebanon’s post-war reconstruction efforts, which the government has prioritized. Recent airstrikes on Saturday resulted in casualties and injuries, further complicating recovery. Lebanon is assessing extensive infrastructure damage, with estimated war losses potentially exceeding $11 billion. The nation is looking to a $250 million World Bank loan as an initial step towards rebuilding vital facilities, though it acknowledges this sum is insufficient for comprehensive recovery.
