The viral video shows an officer explaining the road closure to Macron due to Trump’s motorcade. Following this, Macron is seen making a phone call, reportedly to the former US President himself.
Macron humorously requested Trump to ease the traffic blockade.
After being stopped by New York police, Macron contacted Trump. On the phone, he remarked to Trump that he wouldn’t believe he was standing on the streets of New York waiting for him, due to the extensive closures caused by his departure.
Macron then interacted with people present on the New York streets, even posing for photographs. The New York Police Department has not released any official statement regarding the matter.
Macron is in New York to attend the UN General Assembly. On the first day of the meeting, he announced recognition of Palestine. France is a permanent member of the United Nations. This year’s UN meeting addresses topics such as terrorism, climate change, Palestine, and the situation in Syria.
France is under global scrutiny during this meeting, as it is the first European country and a permanent UN member to declare recognition of Palestine as a separate nation.
