Reports indicate that the family of Mahrang Baloch, a Balochistan activist, has accused the authorities at Quetta’s Hudda Jail of harassment and deliberate obstruction of legal processes. According to the claims, officials have been creating obstacles during scheduled visits and legal procedures. Nadia Baloch, Mahrang’s sister, stated that the superintendent, Hameedullah Pechehi, delayed the signing of a power of attorney despite it being ready, and later refused to sign it. The visit reportedly turned hostile, with family members facing intimidation and threats, including the confiscation of phones. The family alleges that Mahrang and other members of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) are subjected to harassment and pressure from state intelligence agencies. They also refuted recent accusations against Mahrang by the Director General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), stating they were false and defamatory. The family is seeking legal recourse, but alleges authorities are obstructing their efforts, further exacerbating tensions surrounding the detention of BYC leaders under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) law. A petition has been filed in Pakistan’s Supreme Court demanding the release of Mahrang Baloch, Bebarg Baloch, and Mama Ghaffar Baloch, calling their arrests unconstitutional and politically motivated.
