As India celebrated Republic Day, Italian President Sergio Mattarella’s congratulatory letter to President Droupadi Murmu painted an optimistic picture of burgeoning bilateral ties. Describing the relationship as on a fast track to expansion, he foresaw even deeper engagement ahead.

Both nations cherish democracy and governance by law, forming a solid foundation. Their agendas align on safeguarding global rules, stabilizing the Indo-Mediterranean corridor, and addressing transnational threats effectively.

Mattarella’s note warmly wished prosperity for India while noting the Joint Strategic Action Plan’s role in revitalizing cooperation. Economic institutions are launching joint ventures, science is bridging gaps, and societal dialogues are flourishing.

He anticipates enhanced synergy in every bilateral domain and under the broader India-EU umbrella. Political and institutional high-level exchanges are providing the necessary impetus.

Future trade pacts promise to bolster India-EU relations substantially. United in pursuit of security, stability, and multilateralism, Rome and Delhi are set for robust advancement.

The message concluded with sincere felicitations from Italy to India and its people. This comes amid recent diplomatic momentum: Italian Deputy PM Antonio Tajani’s meeting with PM Modi in Delhi last month, and the 2023 elevation of ties to strategic partnership during PM Meloni’s visit.

With the 2025-2029 roadmap in place, India and Italy are charting a course for sustained, multifaceted growth in their alliance.
