Tensions between Pakistan and India may be fueled by the country’s top military official, according to Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan. In a recent interview, she described Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir as a “radicalized Islamist” who actively desires a conflict with India. Aleema Khan asserted that Munir’s conservative Islamic ideology compels him to engage in hostilities with non-Islamic nations.

She drew a stark contrast between her brother, former Prime Minister Imran Khan, and General Munir, characterizing Imran as a “pure liberal” who consistently sought to foster positive relations with India, including its ruling party. Aleema Khan suggested that any return of Imran Khan to power would likely see improved India-Pakistan ties, while General Munir’s influence would inevitably lead to war and instability for India and its allies.

Meanwhile, Imran Khan himself has issued a statement from prison, labeling General Munir a “mentally unstable tyrant.” He accused the army chief of orchestrating his and his wife’s imprisonment on false pretenses and alleged they have endured severe mental torture, comparing his prison conditions to death row. Khan further claimed that Munir’s policies have harmed Pakistan and led to a rise in terrorism, driven by personal interests.
