Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, has announced that the country will host the next Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in 2027. The announcement was made during a speech addressing a road development project in Rawalpindi. The specific dates for the SCO summit were not disclosed.
Sharif emphasized the need to begin preparations immediately, including beautifying Islamabad. This announcement follows the SCO summit held in Tianjin, China, by two weeks. During that summit, Pakistan raised the issue of the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT). India had suspended the treaty in April after a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which resulted in the deaths of 26 people.
