Syria is poised to hold parliamentary elections on Sunday, marking a significant event for the nation. These elections represent the first since the removal of former President Bashar al-Assad. Assad’s rule was overthrown in December 2024 following a rapid offensive by rebels, ending five decades of the Assad family’s dominance. The interim government is currently led by Ahmad al-Shara.

This election is considered a crucial step towards democratic change in Syria. However, it will be an indirect election, meaning the public will not directly cast votes. Despite this, many Syrian citizens are unaware that such an election is even taking place in their country.
