Poland’s top diplomat has dropped a bombshell, claiming Prime Minister Narendra Modi played a decisive role in stopping Russia from launching a nuclear strike on Ukraine. Deputy Foreign Minister Władysław Bartoszewski made the disclosure during an IANS interview in New Delhi on February 6, lauding Modi’s statesmanship amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.

‘PM Modi spoke with President Putin at the end of 2022 and prevented him from attempting to use tactical nuclear devices in Ukraine,’ Bartoszewski revealed. He emphasized India’s growing global stature and expressed hope that such positive interventions would continue.

The interview also touched on the robust Poland-India relationship. Bartoszewski pointed to Modi’s landmark 2024 trip to Warsaw, where they inked a strategic partnership after 45 years without an Indian PM visit. Recent talks expanded on military, digital, security, IT, space, and EU foreign trade agreements.

Turning to economics, he hailed India’s rise: ‘You’re fourth in global GDP, aiming for third under PM Modi. A market of 1.5 billion is impossible to overlook.’ On the India-US trade pact, he advocated for free trade, saying, ‘Lower tariffs mean prosperity; consumers bear the cost of high ones.’

Earlier that day, Indian officials met Bartoszewski to assess the strategic partnership and outline priorities for 2024-2028. These developments highlight India’s diplomatic heft and Poland’s eagerness for collaboration in an uncertain world.
