Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in a telephonic discussion with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, reiterating India’s commitment to a peaceful resolution of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. Modi shared details of the conversation on social media, highlighting the need for stability in the region. He expressed his pleasure in speaking with President Zelenskyy and hearing his perspectives. Modi conveyed India’s consistent position on the necessity for an early and peaceful resolution. India remains dedicated to contributing to this effort and further strengthening bilateral ties with Ukraine. The conversation occurred amidst trade tensions between India and the US, along with allegations that India’s oil purchases from Russia indirectly support Moscow’s actions against Ukraine. The Ministry of External Affairs has responded, pointing out that other nations also import oil from Russia. Additionally, the official reply revealed that the United States itself imports certain metals from Russia. Before speaking with Zelenskyy, Prime Minister Modi had been in communication with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Brazilian President Luiz InĂ¡cio Lula da Silva. During his conversation with President Lula, Modi discussed deepening strategic partnerships, including in trade, energy, technology, defense, and health.
