A heartbreaking tragedy has struck Sydney, with an 8-month pregnant Indian woman losing her life along with her unborn child in a devastating car accident. The victim, identified as 33-year-old Samanvitha Dhareshwar, was just weeks away from welcoming her second child.
The incident occurred last Friday evening as Dhareshwar was walking with her husband and three-year-old son. Police reports indicate that a Kia Carnival had stopped to allow the family to cross a footpath near a car park entrance on George Street in Hornsby. Tragically, a speeding BMW, driven by a 19-year-old P-plate driver, collided with the rear of the Kia, propelling it forward and striking Dhareshwar.
Paramedics rushed Dhareshwar to Westmead Hospital, but severe injuries sustained in the impact proved fatal for both her and her unborn baby. The community is reeling from the loss, with the driver of the BMW arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including dangerous driving occasioning death and causing the loss of a foetus. The case may be prosecuted under Zoe’s Law, which enhances penalties for offenses resulting in the death of an unborn child.
