Russian President Vladimir Putin’s recent visit to India culminated in a distinguished State Dinner hosted by President Droupadi Murmu at the iconic Rashtrapati Bhavan. The entire menu was a celebration of India’s diverse vegetarian cuisine, presented in a traditional Thali style to offer delegates a rich gastronomic experience. This carefully curated selection aimed to showcase sophisticated Indian flavors and local ingredients. The culinary journey spanned from South India to the Himalayas, beginning with regional starters. These included Murungelai Chaaru (South Indian Rasam), Gucchi Doon Chetin (Kashmiri Walnut Stuffed Morels), Kaale Chane Ke Shikaampuri (Black Gram Patties), and Vegetable Jhol Momo (Himalayan Dumplings). The main courses focused on North Indian specialties, featuring Zafrani Paneer Roll, Paalak Methy Maataar Ka Saag, Tandoor Bharwaan Aloo, Achari Baingan, and Yellow Dal Tadka. Complementing these were Dry Fruit and Saffron Pulao and an array of Indian breads like Lachcha Parantha, Magaz Naan, Satanaj Roti, Missi Roti, and Biskooti Roti. The meal concluded with sweet delights: Badam Ka Halwa (Almond Pudding) and Kesar-Pista Kulfi (Saffron-Pistachio Kulfi). A healthy blend of Pomegranate, Orange, Carrot, and Ginger juices was also served. Beyond the exquisite food, the dinner served as a cultural exchange, highlighted by the Rashtrapati Bhavan Naval band’s performance of Indian classical raagas and popular Russian melodies.
